Hong Kong’s Wheelchair Basketball team has headed over to the mainland to take part in the National Disabled Wheelchair Basketball Tournament winning a match and losing one in the event which started on Thursday.
It was a rough start for Hong Kong as they took on the runners up in the last national championship as they were forced to take on Guangdong. The team from Guangzhou tore Hong Kong apart and showed why they are one of the best teams in the tournament. Guangdong cruised to the win claiming it 71-24 in a win that put them on top of the table.
In the second match Hong Kong exploded coming out and tearing apart Hebei, a team from the norther region of China, giving them a short trip to Beijing. Hong Kong managed an even bigger win to make up for their earlier loss, winning 63-15.
The stars for Hong Kong in that second match were Chen Yingjian and Zhong Zhaoting who both managed to score over ten points in the match. It was one of the biggest wins in the opening day of the tournament and has given Hong Kong a strong chance of making the knockout rounds.
On Friday Hong Kong took on Henan in the last match of the group stages and defeated the team from the center of the country. Hong Kong cruised to that victory claiming a 62-20 win over Henan to finish the group stages with two wins.
With those results Hong Kong will now move to the 5th to 8th place playoff and compete in their classification semi-final against Shaanxi on Saturday.
