The shooting season started in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday with two world records broken at the Al Ain World Shooting Para Sport World Cup. The world records were perhaps slightly because of the new format in the final for single position events which now has 24 shots.
Slovakian Veronika Vadovicova was the first athlete to claim a new world record as she won the mixed 10m air rifle prone SH1. After easily qualifying in the top position she won the event with a world record of 254.8. German Natascha Hilltrop was second managing a score of 252.2 while Frenchman Cedriv Fecre was well off the pace in third.
The scores of every individual athlete were then combined and the team scores were revealed with Fevre getting a win with the French team whose combined score of 1891.2 was enough for the top spot. In second was the United Arab Emirates, claiming their first medal of the season with a 1878.3 with Thailand just behind with a score of 1876.0.
In the mixed 25m pistol SH1 there was another world record, this time for Oleksii Denysiuk. It came thanks to a late charge as he managed to shoot 25 in the final to get ahead of Hungarian Gyula Gurisatti, who sealed their first podium position since 2014. In third place was the world champion Swede with Joackim Norberg rounding out the podium.
The first world cup event of the season will continue throughout the week with Thursday having a big day of three separate events.
