The USA Hockey Sled Classic schedule has been announced by USA Hockey and the National Hockey League (NHL) ahead of the 2016 tournament, with the schedule announced on Wednesday. 24 teams affiliated with NHL clubs will compete in the event, the seventh time that the competition is being contested.
Tournament play will begin on the 17th of November, running through that weekend with Championship Games being played on the 20th of November. There will be five divisions of play and the tournament is being hosted by the Ford Ice Center in Antioch, Tennessee.
All 24 teams competing in the tournament are affiliated with an NHL club and are going to compete wearing the official NHL jerseys. Those jerseys will be slightly modified to include logos and marks of the local club they are representing.
There will be a record number of competitors in the event, with 300 athletes taking part across all five divisions. In the 300 competitors are 23 current or former members of the US national team, all competing in the top divisions.
11 of the competitors are also world champions, having won gold in Buffalo in the 2015 Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships. 13 of the athletes in the tournament have gold medals, after wins with the United States in 2010 and 2014.
The tournament will be streamed live on Hockey TV and appears to require a subscription, which costs $24.99 per month. Those with a current subscription will have access to it, while new users will be able to sign up before the tournament.
The top division contains two pools of three teams, Pool A contains Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, and Buffalo Sabres; Pool B will contain Columbus Blue Jackets, St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche. All six teams will advance to the knock-out rounds with the first placed team getting a bye through to the semi-finals, the final will be at 11am on Sunday November 20th.
